Of food and creatures
Eastwood last night. I had a marvelous dinner of grilled squid at Something Fishy with who else?, after which I was treated to a sensual delight of Mango jubilee wherein the dessert dish was prepared right in front of us.
How to make Mango Jubilee (as I rememember it):
1. Heat pan, low heat.
2. Add 2 tbsps brown sugar.
3. 1 tbsp of butter
4. When the sugar has caramelized, pour in some mango juice (just enough so the caramelized sugar won't stick to the pan).
5. Plop in the circle-shaped mango chunks.
6. Pour in some white liquid (couldn't tell what kind of liqueur it was).
7. Add some brandy.
8. Stir.
9. Turn off stove.
10. Pour caramelized mango bits on 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream.
11. Devour.
Yummy!!!
After dinner, we went to the Eastwood mall arcade. Sang some cheesy songs then decided we wanted to try the hand version of Dance Revo. We were discouraged, however, by the dancing, hand-circling prowess of a little lesbian-looking girl who performed so well that neither I nor Earl were willing to embarass ourselves by even trying it. Haha!
On the way to the parking lot, my attention was drawn by a poster with shrimp on platter a (it looked absolutely scrumptious!). Right next to it was a poster of another dish, boiled chicken steaming hot. The dish looked so appetizing, I had to take a second glance. i was not prepared for what I was about to see. On the body of the cooked chicken was attached a chicken head! The chicken's face was, of course, lifeless and limp but more than that, it looked sad. For that moment, I hated the restaurant that was inconsiderate enough to actually put up a poster of a dish with the animal's face in it. It's bad enough that we eat them, but to see the face of suffering, oh the torment of all that they have to go through because of mankind's inability to turn vegetarian. Happy are those who eat vegetables all their lives for they never have to feel the guilt from eating creatures that can feel. Woe is me who cannot give up the pleasure and (economic) practicality of consuming creature-flesh as of yet.
